The Kenosha Water Utility is responsible for maintaining over 3,000 fire hydrants throughout the city. Part of this maintenance includes painting. By applying a fresh coat of paint every few years, we enhance the appearance and improve visibility of faded and weathered hydrants. Each summer specific neighborhoods and roadways are targeted for hydrant painting. Our crews inspect each hydrant in the project area and apply a new finish to those in need. An average of 500 hydrants are repainted each year.
If you see a hydrant that you think needs attention, please call the KWU Engineering Division at 262-653-4315.
